Reflecting on Career Progression: My New Role as Team Manager at Lawson West Solicitors

As we step into a new year, it’s the perfect time for reflection and setting intentions. For me, 2025 brings a significant shift in my professional journey as I take on the role of Team Manager of the Employment Law Department at Lawson West Solicitors. This new position has come at a time when I am both eager and thankful for the growth opportunities I’ve encountered in my career. It’s a moment to pause, look back at how far I’ve come, and look ahead to the exciting challenges and opportunities that lie in the future. 

A New Chapter in My Career 

Having spent a number of years working in the legal sector, I’ve seen firsthand how much dedication and perseverance matter. As I reflect on my path, I realise that reaching this point wasn’t a singular moment, but rather the result of consistent effort, an eagerness to learn, and the invaluable mentorship from those around me. The core values at Lawson West provide guidance and motivation for us to ensure we provide the best level of service to our clients, colleagues and contacts. Therefore, taking on the role of Team Manager, I am not only entrusted with the responsibility of guiding our team and managing complex legal cases, but I also have the opportunity to support the professional growth of others around me. 

The position comes with its own set of challenges. In managing a team of legal professionals, I will need to ensure that we continue to deliver excellent service to our clients while also fostering an environment where my colleagues feel empowered to grow and thrive. It's a responsibility I embrace wholeheartedly, recognising that leadership is not just about managing the work, but about shaping the team’s culture and ensuring everyone has the resources and support they need to succeed. 

Career Progression Opportunities in the New Year 

Looking at the bigger picture, I think it’s crucial for everyone to be mindful of career progression opportunities as we step into a new year. It’s easy to get comfortable in a role or position, but it’s also important to challenge yourself to grow and take on new responsibilities. The legal industry, in particular, offers many opportunities for advancement, and it’s essential to seek out those opportunities and make the most of them. 

For me, transitioning into a leadership role represents an opportunity to broaden my skillset, learn from others, and push the boundaries of what I can achieve. But career progression is not always about moving up; it can also involve honing existing skills, expanding your professional network, or deepening your expertise in a particular area. It’s about continuous growth, and this year, I plan to actively pursue those opportunities that will challenge me to grow as both a professional and a person.

One of the most significant factors in my career journey has been the supportive environment I’ve had the privilege of being a part of. Having a workplace that fosters collaboration, trust, and respect has made all the difference. It’s not just about the skills you bring to the table, but also about how your team, managers, and colleagues support you in your professional development. 

At Lawson West Solicitors, I’ve always felt encouraged to speak up, contribute ideas, and take on new challenges. The leadership team here understands the value of nurturing talent and providing guidance to help people achieve their potential. That’s why I’m particularly excited about stepping into my new role: I know that I’ll be surrounded by colleagues who are just as passionate about supporting each other’s growth as they are about their work.
