eBay hacked

Online giant eBay has said it is forcing users to change their passwords after discovering that a database containing user details was hacked between late February and early March.

The company said that it had no evidence of there being unauthorised activity on its members' accounts but that changing the passwords was "best practice and will help enhance security for eBay users".

The firm, which has 128 million active users also said it would be contacting users to alert them of the issue via email, its website, adverts and through social media.

eBay's engineers are now in the process of rolling out a feature that obliges members to choose a new password when they next log in.
