Current Divorce Statistics
The Office of National Statistics has released figures for the amount of couples getting divorced in England and Wales in 2016 and recorded that rates have increased for the first time in a decade.
There was a rise of 5.8% from 2015-2016 for couples of the opposite sex getting divorced - the first increase since 2009-2010. Interestingly, the highest demographic to increase was couples aged over 50.
It should be noted however, that compared with historical figures, the amount of people getting divorce remains lower with the current figures being 30% lower than the last peak in 2003.
It is important to remember that divorce is only one step in the process of ending your relationship with your spouse and that there is no such thing as a quickie divorce.
The divorce process may end the marriage but it does not end your financial relationship and it is important for separating couples to seek legal advice regarding protecting their financial position both at the point of separation and for the future, the Decree Absolute does not do this.
