Darts v Hearts
UK darts player Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor has divorced his wife of 26 years and now has to pay her half of his £3 million fortune.
Originally he offered his wife a package of £830,000 but after a judge looked into his finances he was ordered to pay her a further £400,000 which included his Tenerife holiday home.
Details of the divorce were private until 14 months ago when two of his daughters publically complained that they were having to live on benefits because their father had cut them out of his life. They felt that he had chosen a celebrity lifestyle over being a father to them. In a further twist it has been claimed that Taylor continues to financially support their two older siblings.
The judge told Taylor that he should have done more to financially support his wife, both during their marriage and when they separated. The judge further commented that because she had spent her marriage and most of her adult life as a homemaker she did not have the capacity to realistically earn a salary to support herself.
Lawson-West Family Director James Haworth comments: “There are numerous strands of family law present within this story: the breakdown of a marriage; responsibilities to the children and finances.
