Compensation awards to increase in employment cases
In a recent announcement, the Government is increasing the amount of compensation payable for employment law claims. The increases will apply in instances where someone has been treated unfairly at work on or after 6th April 2015. This limit on compensation is only applicable to unfair or constructive unfair dismissal claims. The compensation for discrimination claims is uncapped.
From 6th April, under the ‘Employment Rights (Increase of Limits) Order 2015’, the maximum sum for a week's pay will increase to £475 from the current limit of £464. The other main change is to the maximum compensation award that an individual could be given if their case is successful. This goes up to £78,335 from £76,574.
If you’ve been treated unfairly at work and would like to discuss whether you have an employment claim, please contact Vaishali Thakerar, Ashley Hunt or Carrie-Ann Randall at employment law specialists Lawson-West on 0116 212 1000.
