Legal Representation at a Coroner's Inquest Hearing
Sometimes when a death occurs, there may be doubts or questions regarding the date/time of death, the place or circumstances in the place where the death occurred, how the deceased passed, or the identity of the deceased person.
When this happens, an inquest will take place by the coroner serving the area where the deceased passed. The inquest hearing is a forum where the coroner will ask questions of witnesses to the death, as well as other interested parties, in order to reach a judgement regarding the cause of death and/or contributing factors to the death.
Interested parties will include the family of the deceased, but can also include company entities as well as other institutions such as hospitals, care homes and the property or landowners of the place where the death occurred.
The coroner will ask searching questions which can often be seen as intrusive, but this is a necessary part of their job. At Lawson West we can represent an interested party at a coroner’s inquest, and prepare them for the types of questions they will be asked. We would also cross examine any witnesses or interested parties who provides evidence to the coroner.
If you require representation at a coroner’s inquest, do not hesitate to contact the Litigation and Disputes Department at Lawson West.
