A message from Fiona Wilson, Head of our Family Department
We are approaching a time of year when many people around us are excited for Christmas, the Christmas holiday and the New Year.
However, you may have other things on your mind, such as a proposal or wedding in 2025 (Congratulations, by the way!)
More and more we are being approached to advise on Pre-Nuptial or Post-Nuptial Agreements. The courts will give a lot of weight to these Agreements if they are prepared correctly and are compliant with case law.
There are many advantages to Nuptial Agreements, they will set out what should happen on the permanent breakdown of the marriage, potentially avoiding significant legal fees and the heartbreak of lengthy solicitor or court involvement.
Advice can also be given on how best to protect any windfall or inheritance which you may receive during the marriage.
Of course, we sincerely hope that the marriage will be long and successful One of the first lines we use in our Agreements is, “The purpose of this Agreement is to promote and encourage the Marriage rather than to facilitate its breakdown.”
If you require advice on either a Pre-Nuptial or a Post-Nuptial Agreement do contact us to arrange a no obligation fixed fee interview. We can do this at either of our offices or via Teams.
Please call us on 0116 212 1000, or complete our free Contact Us form and we will get in touch as soon as possible.
