‘Cinderella’ wins larger share of farm
Eirian Davies, a farmer's daughter who was nicknamed 'the Cowshed Cinderella', has now won the right to a larger share of her parents' farm following a decision by the Court of Appeal.
Miss Davies had always been promised that she would inherit the farm, and had said that she worked for little or nothing in return, while hers sisters were free to do what they wished. However, after a family row, her parents tried to evict her, and started proceedings to change their wills so that the farm no longer went to her but to a family trust for all three of their daughters.
In return, Miss Davies began a legal campaign to secure what she said was her rightful share of the farm in South Wales. She won her case initially, and now a challenge by her parents was dismissed by the Appeal Court.
Lord Justice Floyd who heard the Appeal with Lords Justice Richards and Underhill, said he hoped the family could now resolve their differences in relation to Miss Davies’ entitlement ‘without recourse to further costly and divisive litigation’.
