Dementia & Alzheimer’s
1 in 14 people over 65 have Dementia in the UK and it is estimated that around 1 million people in the UK are living with dementia.
One in two people are estimated to be affected by dementia in their lifetime.
With an aging population, dementia is a fact of life that we cannot get away from. It is anticipated that 1.6 million people will be living with Dementia in the UK in just 25 years. Whilst people living with dementia do not necessarily lack capacity to make decisions, due to its progressive nature, such people will in time lose this capacity.
For those people who cannot make their own decisions, someone needs to be appointed to manage their money and their decisions. If they did not make a Lasting Power of Attorney during their lifetime, a Deputyship Order is required. Without this, no-one is authorised to make decisions or manage money, including husbands, wives and children.
Lawson West Solicitors are experts in applications for Deputyship Orders as well as one-off orders for decisions that require Court authorisation (such as gifting), with many years’ experience in the preparation of such orders. To find out more about specific orders call us on 0116 212 1000 and ask to speak with the Court of Protection team.
