Learning Differences, Autism and Children Lacking Capacity

Unfortunately, some children will never attain mental capacity when they reach 18 due to health conditions, learning difficulties or other needs. This may manifest itself in many ways, and whilst some children will grow up to look after their physical needs, some many not be able to adequately manage finances, or may remain vulnerable to financial abuse.

When a child is under 18, their decisions and finances can be managed and made by their parents or guardians. As applications for Deputyship to continue making decisions once our child is 18 can take around 12 months, it is important to consider preparing for this before they reach this age.

Deputyship applications can be made in anticipation of the child turning 18 and Lawson West are experts at arranging such applications. If you want to discuss Deputyship, or discover your options, call us on 0116 212 1000.
